Y. Flores, World Language High School

Ms. Lopez was brought from El Salvador to the United States when she was nine years old. She always wanted to go to college but, due to her status, she was never sure it would be possible. In her junior year at World Language High School, she met Suzanne Zoheri-Chopra, Postsecondary Coordinator at Enlace Chicago. Postsecondary Coordinators provide targeted postsecondary support services to undocumented students. With the encouragement of Suzanne, she learned about scholarships, colleges and other resources.

During her senior year, she applied for the Dreamers Unidos Scholarship Fund. She was awarded the scholarship in its first year, helping her launch her college career. In May, she will complete her Associates Degree from Daley College. In the fall she will begin her bachelor’s degree at National Louis University as a University Fellow. She continues to work with Enlace’s Postsecondary Coordinators to secure scholarships and navigate college life. Continued support is an important part of the Dreamers Unidos model.
